In Cup Plus supplies Fairtrade Sugar in our hot drinks vending machines.
Tate & Lyle
Tate & Lyle sugar is to be Fairtrade accredited, making it the biggest UK company
to carry the Fairtrade label. Granulated white cane sugar will be the Tate &
Lyle's first Fairtrade product and it says it expects its entire retail range to
follow by the end of 2009.
To earn a Fairtrade label, companies must pay local producers a fair price and invest
further to improve working conditions and local sustainability.
Tate & Lyle says it will add £60m to the value of Fairtrade sugar within
a year. The first Tate & Lyle sugar to be given the Fairtrade accreditation
comes from Belize, where the company has been trading for 35 years.

Fairtrade is a growing international movement with the aim to ensure that producers
in poor countries get a fair deal for their sugar and are not exploited.
Producers in poorer countries deserve a fair price for their goods and should be
offered a price that covers both the cost of production and a sufficient amount
to guarantee families have an income which they can live on.
Fairtrade offers producers and their families security by offering long term contracts
and enabling the producers themselves to learn new skills which is essential in
enabling them to develop and improve their businesses.
